Parents Push Back: Voters Defund Michigan Town Library Over Sexually Explicit LGBTQ Books

In a direct response to their local library’s acquiring and prominently displaying LGBTQ books and other materials, the citizens of Jamestown, Michigan, recently voted to defund the library.

The township’s Patmos Library will lose 84% of its annual $245,000 budget after more than 62% of voters just refused to approve an annual property tax millage renewal for 2023.  A millage is a percentage tax on property at its assessed value. The current millage is set to expire at the end of this year.

There was never any question on what the vote was about, local resident Jesse Dillman told MLive.   Source: CBN News

America First Policy Institute: Inflation Reduction Act Will Raise Prices, Taxes, & Kill 218,000 Jobs

The reconciliation bill crafted by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and supported by the Biden administration will raise electricity and gas prices, hike taxes, and kill about 218,000 blue-collar jobs in 2023, said Marc Lotter, the chief communications officer of the America First Policy Institute.

On Fox News @Night, Aug. 1, Lotter said, “The National Association of Manufacturers says this bill will cost 218,000 blue-collar workers their jobs next year. Your electric and heating bills are going up, your gas is going to go up by $25 billion as a tax increase for oil companies that’s going to get passed along at the pumps.”

“This is just going to make the inflation problem even worse,” he added. Source: CNS News

Biden Weaponizing Justice Department to Force States Into Abortion Compliance

The Biden Justice Department announced Tuesday it is suing the state of Idaho over its new law banning most abortions.

The suit promises to be the first in a series of actions the DOJ will take to try to limit the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision in June that overturned the 1973 case Roe v. Wade.

In Roe, justices had created a national right to obtain an abortion.

The Idaho law bans all abortions except in the cases of rape or incest that are reported to law enforcement or when a physician determines “in his good-faith medical judgment and based on the facts known to the physician at the time, that the abortion was necessary to prevent the death of the pregnant woman.” Source: Western Journal

New Molecule May Prevent Age-Related Diseases and Increase Life Expectancy and Wellness Discovered in Israel

While breakthroughs in the world of medicine and technology account for the global increase in life expectancy, improvements in quality of life for the elderly population lag far behind. Longevity without a decline in health is one of the major challenges that face the world of medicine. A new study led by Professors Einav Gross and Shmuel Ben-Sasson of the Faculty of Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HU) has identified a group of molecules that enable cells to repair damaged components, making it possible for those tissues to retain proper function. The efficacy of the molecules was demonstrated on a model organism. The research team examined the effect of various therapies on longevity and quality of life, and successfully proved they can protect the organisms and human cells from damage. Their findings were published in Autophagy.

Currently, a major factor in aging tissues is the reduced effectiveness of the cell’s quality-control mechanism, which leads to the accumulation of defective mitochondria.

As Gross explained, “mitochondria, the cell’s ‘power plants,’ are responsible for energy production. They can be compared to tiny electric batteries that help cells function properly. Although these ‘batteries’ wear out constantly, our cells have a sophisticated mechanism that removes defective mitochondria and replaces them with new ones.” Source: Israel365

Amazon Cuts 100,000 Employees From Workforce In A Single Quarter

Amazon, one of the largest tech employers in the world, has revealed that it is now hiring at the slowest pace since 2019 and has cut over 100,000 employees globally in the June quarter, likely due to the dramatic economic slowdown since 2021.  It is the largest workforce cut in a single quarter in the history of the company.  The layoffs are part of an increasing trend of protecting the bottom line within the tech industry.  The cuts likely played a large role in Amazon’s recent revenues beat and their rosy profit projections for the third quarter, though it still lost a net $2 billion in the second quarter.

The more employees lose their jobs, the more healthy the company appears to be when shareholders examine quarterly earnings; it is inevitable that layoffs will continue.  There have been over 30,000 job cuts by tech companies in the US in the past few months alone, and unemployment claims have climbed to 8-month highs.

The covid pandemic lockdowns and subsequent stimulus checks created an enormous artificial boost for tech companies like Amazon in 2020 and 2021, but the $6 trillion stimulus has since circulated out of the pockets of most Americans and globally the lockdowns did incredible harm to existing economic stability.  Demand for peripheral goods is in steep decline as inflation in necessities continues to rise.  In 2022, the stagflation crisis is leading to imminent demand destruction.  Source: ZeroHedge
